6 Great Places to Promote Affiliate Links

Affiliate Marketers are always looking for ways to promote their respective affiliate links. Utilizing the power of the internet, most affiliate can easily plug their links in a variety of places in order to get the best results and reach the most amount of potential customers.

I’ve listed 6 great places to promote your affiliate links below. These are the exact places that I tend to put my links in order to drive traffic to my affiliate offers.

Facebook/Twitter

Facebook is one of the biggest social media sites online today. Everyone and their grandmother are on Facebook at least several times a day.

Placing your links on Facebook is a great way to get more exposure. You have to be careful about overly posting your links however.

Personally I like to use the “description” area when I post. So for instance, if I post a photo of my computer and a cup of coffee beside it, I will say a few words in the description about how I’m grinding or working on my business. Then I will drop a link to my website or a relevant article.

This link is not always a direct affiliate link, but within my website post I’ll have plenty of call to actions that will get visitors to my affiliate offers.

I’ve also used Facebook to promote my affiliate links, by dropping them within comments on other friends posts. In this situation, I will address a problem they are having with a solution (my link).

For instance, if a friend posts something about not being happy with their current vacuum cleaner, I will comment saying something along the lines of “I recently purchased vacuum A and have been pleasantly surprised with its power and quality.” Then I will drop my affiliate link to that particular vacuum.

Twitter works the same way, in that most people are on Twitter and if you can make use of hashtags, you can reach a ton of potential customers. Once again, I tend to put links to my website blog posts in a tweet. These are blog posts that are usually reviews of products and thus filled with affiliate links.

Doing it this way keeps you from violating the policies of not spamming you affiliate links as well as getting more people to your website. If you don’t have a website or blog post, I highly recommend getting one.

You can get training and have one set up in less than 30 seconds HERE!

Instagram

Within Instagram, there are really only 2 places you can promote your affiliate links. One is within your profile and the other is within Stories.

My suggestion is that you put your website link in your profile area (you are allowed 1 link there). If there is one major affiliate program that you are promoting you could also put that instead. The reason I suggest putting your website link, is because this gets visitors to your website where they will be exposed to your affiliate offers.

Once you have reached the level where you can add links to your Stories, this is another great place to promote your links. Create a story talking about the product and tell people to swipe up for more information or to purchase their own.

Most influencers do this on a regular basis. They will have entertaining and funny stories and then mixed within those, they will promote an affiliate product here and there.

Pinterest

Pinterest is incredibly easy to use and an excellent source for affiliate traffic. People are literally searching on Pinterest for things that they are in the market for. This leads to greater conversions.

In order to promote your affiliate links, you need to create a blog post that is structured like a product review. Use relevant and engaging photos in your post so that you can pin them to pinterest and attach your link to it.

I use Pinterest every single time I create a new blog post. I simply take the url link and add it to a pin, grab the most appealing image from the site and then say a little about the product.

https://www.pinterest.com/elizabethzering/

Remember that your blog post review will have the actual affiliate links in them. Pinterest doesn’t mind this, but it does have a problem if you just pin your actual affiliate link.

YouTube Videos

If you didn’t already know, YouTube is basically a search engine… much like Google or Yahoo. People search for everything on YouTube and therefore, it’s a great place to promote your affiliate links.

Unlike the other Social Media sites, you can actually put your straight affiliate link in the description of your videos. I even add a call to action in my video that directs people to the link.

The best way to use this platform is to create value videos as well as product reviews. Tell people specifically to click the link in the description if they want to purchase or check out the product for themselves.

You can add more than one in the description box, so I would suggest keeping the other ones relevant to your video.

I use this strategy a lot and I’ve had great success with it. Feel free to check out my channel and see exactly how I use my links.

Website Blog

Having your own website is not necessary for an Affiliate Marketer, but it is highly recommended. Personally, I use my website to build my audience and promote various products and programs that I am affiliated with.

I have complete control of my blog, which gives me more freedom that the social media platforms allow. Creating content is not difficult and if done correctly you can drive massive traffic to your blog posts and make affiliate sales as a result.

If you are reading this post right now, you are on one of my websites. I have several, but this one is the first one I built and I’ve been making money with it since 2014.

The obvious way that you can promote affiliate links is to add them to your posts through call to action buttons or text as well as through images.

If you are unfamiliar with how to build a website and promote your links, I suggest you take advantage of an incredible training program that is designed to help you start your own blog site as well as teach you everything you need to know to market it.

You can click here to read more about it!

Quora

Finally, there is Quora.com… a platform where people can ask questions or search for answers to questions they have. It can literally be about anything. This is where you come in.

By answering someone’s question about a certain product or program, you can add a link to your affiliate offers within your answer. I suggest sending them to a relevant blog post because if you spam out your affiliate links too much, you will get banned.

But just like the other social media platforms, linking to a blog post you wrote will do 2 things. One it will get traffic/visitors to your website and two it will get your affiliate links in front of them.

I have some more training on how to use Quora effectively… you can check that out here!

Conclusion – Why You NEED a Website

As you can tell, having a website is incredibly beneficial to the Affiliate Marketer. It is basically your main hub for sending potential customers to.

With the limitations that most social media and forum sites put on affiliate links, it is extremely important to have a neutral place where you can send visitors and still get exposure to your various links.

This is why I recommend building a website and using that as the vehicle to deliver your affiliate products. It’s not hard to build one if you know what you are doing.

I suggest checking out Wealthy Affiliate for all the training and tools you need to build a successful website.

Not to mention you also get an incredible commission for each referral you make. Under the Premium Membership, you only have to get 2 referrals in order to pay for your monthly membership. If you think about it, that’s pretty easy. Any referrals above that is pure profit!

Here’s a brief breakdown of the commission structure for Wealthy Affiliate:

STARTER Member Commissions:

Initial $19 offer, Commission = $4

Wealthy Affiliate uses the WordPress platform, which is very user-friendly and takes all the technical confusion out of the picture. So whether you are a complete newbie or an experienced professional, you will be able to build a website with ease.

Step Four – Share Affiliate Link

After you have built a website and started adding content by writing blog posts, you can begin to share your WA Affiliate Link. People that are interested will click on the link and be taken to the Wealthy Affiliate sign up page. These are your referrals and you could potentially earn income from them if they complete the sign up process or if they decide to go Premium.

Wealthy affiliate makes it super simple to share your unique affiliate link. They have a standard affiliate link that simply takes the visitor to the main sign up page, but they also have customizable links that allow you to put your own personal spin on the landing page. You can create several different ones depending on the audience you are targeting.

There is also a great banner area where you can find Wealthy Affiliate banners that have your unique affiliate ID already coded in. Here’s an example:

Step Five – Follow Up With Referrals

Eventually you will begin to have a steady stream of referrals joining Wealthy Affiliate and earning you recurring income every month. One of the great features that WA offers to it’s affiliates is the ability to follow up with your referrals via messages that you can set up to be sent to your referral at certain times.

When a new referral joins, this feature automatically sends out the message that you created earlier. You can adjust this at any time. Of course you can always reach out to your referrals at any time, but having this auto-responder feature makes things so much easier, especially when you start getting 10-15 referrals a day.

Earning Potential Explained

Depending on how much work you put in, you have the potential to make quite a bit of recurring monthly income from Wealthy Affiliate. Keep in mind this doesn’t happen overnight, but if you follow the step by step training you’ll begin to see trickles of referrals that before too long turn into a snowball of referrals.

How to Make Money with Wealthy Affiliate

By just referring a few people per day, you have a HUGE income potential.  And once you get going and you are referring a few dozen people per day, you can honestly make a full time living.

How to Hide Your Affiliate Links – The Best Cloaking Tools

What is Cloaking?cloaking affiliate links

Cloaking is essentially hiding the target URL from the person clicking on the link (redirection of a long URL).  When someone hovers over a link, the URL is usually shown in the bottom left hand side of the screen.  Sometimes these affiliate links can be quiet long especially if there are tracking id’s attached.  In order to clean up the look of these links, many affiliate marketers use programs or plugins to cloak the links.

In other words, by shortening links users can make links more shareable, manage and track links, and cloak affiliate links. This provides a much better experience for their visitors.

Reasons To Hide/Cloak Links?

There are several reasons to cloak links that are either on your own website or are placed on other sites like Pinterest or Twitter. I’ve listed a few reasons below:

  • To disguise links because some sites block affiliate links, like Pinterest.
  • In order to make links appear cleaner and shorter
  • To prevent commission hacking or affiliate theft
  • To help with tracking
  • So the links don’t appear like affiliate links to visitors, search engines and other website

Programs Used to Cloak or Shorten Links

Below is a very short list of the different programs you could use to cloak links. There are many, many more out there. But I tend to like these as they are relatively easy to use and best of all – FREE!

  • Bitly – Bitly.com is a great URL shortener and Link Management Platform, because it is web-based and you can easily see all of your shortened links in one place.  They provide statistics for each shortened link as well which is a very helpful tool. Also, you can add your own slug to the end of the link that will not only look better but also allow you to keep track of it easier.
  • Google URL Shortener – https://goo.gl/  Google has it’s own URL shortener that is pretty much the same as Bitly.  However, you cannot add your own slug to the end of it.  Google assigns the shortened link at random.
  • Pretty Link – Pretty Link is a WordPress Plugin that allows you cloaking affiliate linksto add a slug to the end of your website link.  For instance: www.mywebsitename.com/click.  In this example, “click” would be the slug that you can customize to whatever you want that will help you organize your links.
  • Tiny URL – Just like the name implies, it takes a long URL and makes it Tiny.  This platform has link editing, click statistics, QR codes, and Custom Domains.

Examples of Cloaked Links

A link shortening service would take an ugly, long link like:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E6AO69U/ref=as_li_ss_tl?pf_rd_p=ed8c1c50-009c-4a9f-bf5a-8c17cfbfb32d&pf_rd_r=JY0KWPC90MY7KVJT668C&linkCode=ll1&tag=campintexa-20&linkId=50bf2147e4d1a75f020035ba2a60fe4d

It would then shorten it to something much more pleasant, such as:

http://amzn.to/2lQ7icY

Final Thoughts

If you have a need to either shorten links or to actually cloak affiliate links, knowing how to do so will definitely help.  I personally use a variety of these shortening and cloaking tools to streamline my business and keep things nice and pretty.  The last thing I want is to have someone steal my affiliate link, so taking these simple precautions gives me that added sense of security.

How to Sell Affiliate Products Online

One of the easiest ways to make money selling online is to promote other people’s products.  This allows you to generate a profit without having to have your own product or service to sell.  Most of us don’t have the time or the resources to build widgets in our garage and attempt to sell them to customers.  But by selling affiliate products, you skip that step altogether.

If you already have a website, then you are way ahead of the How to Sell Affiliate Products Onlinegame.  Website and blogs are the absolute best place to begin selling affiliate products. You simply place links or banners on your site and when someone clicks on the link, they are taken to the affiliate’s site.  You get a commission for the sale.

If you don’t have a website, but want one… then keep reading because I have a very special offer just for you!

Finding Affiliate Products to Sell

  • Individual Companies – There are thousands of companies in all sorts of markets that have affiliate programs. Take Walmart for example… they have an affiliate program that you can sign up for and start making money when you refer customers to them. How to Sell Affiliate Products Online

Target also has an affiliate program that offers a very nice progressive commission structure… meaning the more sales you make, the higher your commission percentage increases.

Another great Affiliate Program is Amazon.com.  As you probably know, you can find ANYTHING on Amazon and most people trust it, so when you send a customer to Amazon (via your affiliate link), they are most likely going to purchase something.  The beauty of Amazon is that even if they don’t buy the particular product you were linking them to, you still get a commission on whatever they might choose to buy.

For instance, you might have a link to a sleeping bag on Amazon.  A customer comes to your site and clicks on the link, however they begin looking around and decide to purchase a different sleeping bag along with some hiking boots.  Guess what, you get the credit for BOTH products!

Most of these companies are easy to sign up for and you can start promoting their products as soon as you are approved.

  • Affiliate Networks – A lot of companies will partner with an affiliate network for their particular affiliate program.  So places like Avantlink, Share a Sale, and CJ host hundreds of affiliate programs that you can choose from.  Most people like the networks because then all of their programs are in one place.  I personally like Avantlink for my camping website… they have a ton of outdoor related companies that I can promote.
  • ClickBank – If you are interested in promoting mostly digital products, Clickbank is the best affiliate program.  They have a huge listing of ebooks and other digital products.  Most of these even have landing/squeeze pages that you can utilize.

Grabbing The Affiliate Link

After you have signed up with a few affiliate programs and you know what you want to sell online, you need to incorporate that onto your website.  You do this by grabbing the affiliate link or the html code for the product you want to promote.  Most affiliate programs make this pretty easy to do.  A simple copy and paste procedure and you are done. You can even add tracking id’s to the links if you want to pinpoint exactly where each click is coming from.

Below is an example of the affiliate link that will be generated specifically for you.  Just highlight and copy the link… past within your blog text or attach to an image.

How to sell affiliate products online

Insert Link Into Website

Deciding where you want to put the link is the next step.  You have several choices when it comes to your website… you may want it in the body of a post or a stand alone banner on a page or you may want it to appear in the side column of your website. How to sell affiliate products online

  • Side Widgets – If you are trying to showcase the product or company, you can add it to a side widget so that it shows up on every page.  Simply do this by grabbing the html code for the size banner you want and paste it into your widget area.

  • Banners –  If you have a page or a post that needs some images, you might want to use a banner to promote a particular item or company.  This is accomplished by once again grabbing the html code and then placing it within your page.  I have recorded a very simple, very quick video on how to do this… you can check it out below.

  • Simple Text Link – It has been proven that text links actually convert far better than banners or images in general.  This is usually because you can include a “call to action” when you insert a text link.  In order to add a text link, highlight the text you want to become a link and insert the actual affiliate link that was provided for you.

Collect Your Commissions – It’s Time to Get Paid

Once you have made a few sales, the affiliate How to sell affiliate products onlineprograms give you a commission.  The percentage varies from program to program.  But most of them are anywhere from 6% to 20%.  One of my favorite affiliate programs to promote is actually 50% and it’s recurring monthly. Check it out here if you are interested

Most affiliate programs have a minimum that you must earn before you can request payment.  And they payout in different ways too.  Some of them use PayPal, some use direct deposit into your bank, and some will send you an actual check.  But in most cases you can pick which payment method you want and what works best for you.How to sell affiliate products online

Other Ways to Sell Affiliate Products without a Website

While having a website is certainly the easiest and most profitable way to sell affiliate products, there are other ways to get your links out there.  I’ve listed a few below and I’ll be covering these particular methods in later posts, so be sure to stay tuned.

  • Pinterest – Although gaining popularity, Pinterest does block you if you put direct affiliate links on it, so you usually have to cloak the links using programs like bitly or tinyurl.
  • Social Media – Facebook Ads, Twitter, and Instagram are great places to place affiliate links.
  • Email Marketing – If you have built a list of potential customers, then shooting them an email promoting a sale or a great deal on a product is the perfect way to reach people and get paid.

What is Affiliate Marketing About – Can I Make Money Online?

Featured

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is the process of promoting other people’s products online in which these companies offer commissions to the Affiliate Marketer when someone purchases one of their products.  Essentially it is an advertising technique that companies use to get more exposure to their products.  Just like the way they would stock their products in retail stores, companies allow affiliates to “stock their products” online by way of websites and links.

So an Affiliate Marketer is the person that has a website and creates product reviews or articles that provides the potential customer with a link to that particular product. If the visitor clicks on the link and ends up purchasing the product, the Affiliate Marketer gets a percentage of that purchase (commission).

Can I Make Money Online By Affiliate Marketing?

It is definitely possible to make money with Affiliate Marketing.  Many people are doing it everyday and are extremely successful at it.  Just to be clear, these are NOT the people that are scam artists or who are promoting shiny objects (get rich quick scams for instance).  These are people who put in the work and are authorities in their particular niche.

I started my affiliate marketing business a little over 3 years ago and I’ve been making money at it for quite a while.  It didn’t take off overnight, but with training and hard work, I’ve thrived at it and it is really paying off.  My niche is the camping/survival niche.  So at my website, I promote camping equipment and several survival products.

Like any good business person, I have several mentors that I follow and model my affiliate marketing business after.  I do this because they are successful and have a wealth of knowledge that has really helped me build out my business.

How Does Affiliate Marketing Really Work?

What is Affiliate Marketing about

1. Choose an Interest

Deciding on what subject matter you want to write about and promote is where you need to start.  What interests you?  What is your passion or hobby?  These are great places to start when choosing a niche. Once you have a niche picked, this is the audience that you need to target.

Click here to read my article: How to Choose a Niche for Affiliate Marketing

2. Build a Website

After deciding on your niche, you will need to build a website.  This is where you will be promoting products and eventually earning income.  I suggest that you don’t just go out there and build a generic website.  You will never be successful with that.  You need to learn how to build a website that will generate money.  There is so much more to creating a website than just picking a domain name and throwing in some pictures and words.

Trust me, you will want to get advice and techniques from the experts.  My recommendation is that you gain as much knowledge as you can.  Arm yourself with proper education.

3. Drive Traffic

Once you have a website, you will need to drive traffic to it.  This traffic will provide you with potential customers that will click on your affiliate links.  But how do you drive traffic?  There are actually many ways to do this, including organic SEO, PTC campaigns, Advertising, and Social Media.  For detailed information and proven techniques, check out this article: The Traffic Breakdown

I have a few articles about some of the alternative traffic sources that I use from time to time.  You can read more here:

4. Earn Revenue

Generate Revenue

Now for the fun part…. REVENUE!!!! After all, we are here to make money right?  After you build your website, create content for it, and get traffic coming on a regular basis, you will start to earn money from your affiliate links.  Remember, you are building a business and it doesn’t happen overnight…. but it WILL happen!!!

The awesome thing is that you have put in the work and earning revenue can happen while you are asleep or on vacation.  Other jobs, you have to be AT WORK in order to make money.  With Affiliate Marketing, someone might go to your affiliate link at midnight and you still earn money.  I remember being on the beach with my family when my very first affiliate commission came in.  That was truly Awesome!!

Final Thoughts

AvantLink – In My Opinion – The Best Affiliate Program Network

Affiliate with Trusted Brands

When looking for merchants and companies to affiliate with, trusted brands are essential.  Those companies that are well-known and offer quality products tend to convert quite well.  They also tend to offer higher commissions and reward affiliates that are performing well.

Where do you find Trusted Merchants

I have tried several affiliate platforms and the one that I love the most is Avantlink.  They only allow qualified catalog based merchants who have a specific commission plan.  This gives you the ability to partner and build relationships with merchants who understand referral marketing. I have actually reached out to several of my merchants and asked them if they could provide me with samples or products that I could review on my website.  Most of them were more than happy to send me one of their products or at least offer more marketing material.

Superior Interface and Tracking

Avantlink also has a great interface and lay out that is easy to understand and work with. They offer a vast amount of reports and click through information that is real-time. This is important to me because I can see sales instantly instead of waiting for several hours or even days.

avantlinkThe tracking is incredible because you can easily add custom tracking links to any page.  Anyone who is an affiliate marketer knows that custom tracking is key in determining which campaigns or marketing strategies are working and which ones need to be tweaked. Better tracking means better results!!

Innovative Tools for Marketing

Ad tools like Merchant Ads, Paid Placement, Deal of the Day, and Product Ad Widgets are just a few of the many tools that Avantlink offers.  No matter how you want to go about marketing, there is a tool to take care of it for you.

avantlink-ad-toolsavantlink-ad-tool2

Support that Cares

We’ve all experienced bad customer support at some point in our careers.  It happens.  But at Avantlink, their support is by far the best I’ve seen.  If you ever have any issues or technical problems, they are quick to respond and extremely helpful. After all, affiliates are the backbone of their platform and supporting the backbone is the only way they will grow.

Coffee Shop Millionaire Review – What’s it All About?

Coffee Shop Millionaire Review                                        CSM

Name: Coffee Shop Millionaire

Website: www.thecoffeeshopmillionaire.com
Owners: Anthony Trister
Price: $37/month plus upsells
Overall Scam Rank: 6 out of 10

What is Coffee Shop Millionaire?

Coffee Shop Millionaire (CSM) teaches internet marketing skills by using training modules and various lessons. The idea is that you can simply sit in your favorite coffee shop and watch the money roll in. This is of course unrealistic and the implication that you can be a “millionaire” is completely ridiculous. CSM was created by Anthony Trister who uses his saleperson skills to sell his product.  The product however is not all it’s cracked up to be.

The Good & the Bad

The Good:

  •  small upfront cost of $37/month
  • Offers valid ways to make money online

The Bad:

  • Hidden upsell ($297) that pops up after you sign up
  • You have to buy your own hosting and domain name
  • Out of date training… does not keep up with today’s internet practices.
  • No support offered to members

Who is Coffee Shop Millionaire For?

It is marketed to anyone who wants to make money online, no matter the skill level.  So basically, beginner to expert. It is not for those who are looking for an easy, get rich fast program.  The hard work comes after the training… which makes the initial premise of sitting in a coffee shop while money rolls in a bit askew.  This is where the program is misleading in my opinion.

Coffee Shop Millionaire Tools & Training

The training available on CSM involves 12 modules that cover all the information you need to be successful. There are videos as well that outline the process of internet marketing. The training, however, is a bit vague and leaves a lot of important information out. This makes it very frustrating for those wanting to actually be successful.

There is a  “cheat sheet” that is supposed to show you how to make $21K in just a few weeks. Having started from the beginning in this field, I can tell you that this is impossible when first starting out.  It can be done in time, but as with any business success doesn’t just fall in your lap… there is a lot of time and work involved.

My Final Opinion of Coffee Shop Millionaire

This program does offer valid ways to make money online, however it misses the mark by only skimming the surface of marketing techniques. You get just enough information but in order to be truly successful, you need the meat and potatoes, which this program fails to deliver. The lack of overall support and mentoring is also a problem.  Those that are just starting out need more guidance and help along the way.  I wouldn’t recommend this program to anyone who is a newbie to internet marketing. It’s just not helpful enough. See My #1 Recommendation
